Brier berth up for grabs

It’s something very few curlers in Canada get a chance to do—but next week Tim Nordin will be looking to accomplish just that.
Nordin and his foursome from the Stratton Curling Club will be looking to represent Northern Ontario at this year’s Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ont.
They will battle 11 other rinks for provincial glory starting Sunday at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay.
One of those other 11 rinks also will have a local flavour to it as Devlin native Mike Badiuk will play lead for the John Salo rink from the Geraldton Curling Club.
He had been competing this week at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Championships in Calgary, where Northern Ontario finished out of the playoffs.
The Nordin rink, made up of third Mitch Sequin, second Adam Bolen, and lead Travis Showalter, will be in tough in their first draw Sunday night as they square off against defending provincial champ Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie.
Meanwhile, the Salo foursome, which also includes third Kris Leupen and second Cory Nephin, begins play Sunday afternoon against Bryan Burgess (Fort William Curling Club).
Then they’ll close out the day versus Jeff Currie (Port Arthur Curling Club).
Round-robin play will continue until next Friday, with the playoffs scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
