Braves soar to their league-leading 10th win

It was a night of perfect 10s for the Fort Frances Braves.
The Braves pounded out 10 runs in a shutout of Windey’s Warriors as they improved to a league-best 10-0 in Rainy River District Fastball League action on Thursday night at Couchiching.
It didn’t take long for the Braves’ offence to get going as Cole Tymkin led off the first with a single off Warriors’ starter Rob McGinnis.
Jaden Gustafson then cashed him in with a deep two-run homer to left field as Fort Frances went ahead 2-0.
McGinnis buckled down after that, however, recording three outs in a row to limit the damage at just two runs.
The Braves then put the game out of reach in the third as they tacked on three more runs to go up by five.
After Gustafson tossed three scoreless innings, Tymkin took over for him on the pitching rubber.
After retiring the first two Warriors’ batters he faced, McGinnis then cranked a double before leaving in favour of a pinch-runner.
But the pinch-runner was thrown at home trying to score the next at-bat to keep it a 5-0 cushion.
The braves then tacked on a run in the fifth before exploding for four in the seventh.
Jacob Jack and Tymkin led off the frame with singles and came around to score on a double from Gustafson.
After another RBI double brought Gustafson home, Mike Parisien clubbed an RBI single to round out the scoring.
Gustafson pitched three scoreless innings to garner the win while Tymkin was solid with four innings of shutout relief.
McGinnis suffered the loss for the Warriors (6-6) after allowing five runs over six innings.
In other games last Thursday, DJ Mosbeck homered to pace the Barwick Blue Knights to a 5-1 win over the host Sabaskong Lakers.
Brandon Pratt garnered the win for the Blue Knights (8-4) over James Yerxa of the Lakers (5-6).
Sheldon Kelly Jr. pitched well to lead the Couchiching Raiders to a 13-6 win over the Northwest Bay Chieftains.
Kelly Jr. also went yard for the Raiders (7-5) while Don Smith was tagged with the loss for the Chieftains (2-9).
The Sabaskong Goldeneyes (2-8) at Rainy River Royals (6-4) game was postponed and will be rescheduled for later in the season.
Scores of the Dawson Tigers (6-5) at Stratton Eagles (5-6) and Manitou Thunderbirds (2-8) at Sight & Sound Wolves (6-4) games were unavailable as of press time.
Last night’s games, the results of which weren’t known as of press time, pitted the Royals against the host Lakers, the Goldeneyes travlled to Stratton to take on the Eagles, Dawson welcomed the Blue Knights, the Braves played host to the Thunderbirds, the Raiders locked horns with the Wolves, and the Warriors made the tip to Northwest Bay to take on the Chieftains.
Tomorrow’s games, which are all 7 p.m. starts (weather permitting), will see Barwick welcome the Goldeneyes, the Tigers will square off against the Lakers, Stratton will host the Royals, the Warriors will tangle with the Wolves, the Chieftains will do battle with the Braves, and Manitou will go up against the Raiders.
