Braves keep on winning


The Fort Frances Braves are a well-oiled machine so far this season.
Jaden Gustafson was stellar on the rubber to lead the Braves to a 5-0 shutout of the Sight & Sound Wolves in Rainy River District Fastball League action Thursday night.
With the win, the Braves saw their league-best record improve to a perfect 9-0.
Murray Armstrong suffered the loss for the Wolves (5-5).
Elsewhere, the Barwick Blue Knights (9-3) pulled out a 10-9 win over the Stratton Eagles (4-4-1).
DJ Mosbeck and Vaughan Wilson both homered for the Blue Knights.
Brandon Pratt earned the win while Shelby Nosan was tagged with the loss.
Cecil Copenace went yard to help the Sabaskong Lakers (6-3) to a 13-1 rout of the Sabaskong Goldeneyes (2-8).
James Yerxa nabbed the win while Keenan Copenace took the loss.
The Couchiching Raiders (6-3-2) rolled to a 12-2 win against Windy’s Warriors (4-6).
Tanner Smith was the victor while Rob McGinnis suffered the loss.
Mitch Seguin homered to help the Dawson Tigers (7-0) to an 8-5 victory over the Rainy River Royals (4-7).
Jeff Morrison earned the win while James Minnie was saddled with the loss.
The Northwest Bay Chieftains (2-8-1) at Manitou Thunderbirds (0-10) was postponed and will be made up at a later date.
Manitou has had a handful of games rained out already, with the squad playing two make-up ones on Sunday.
Their first game saw them blown out 18-4 by the Raiders in a make-up for the May 24 contest.
Chris Morrisseau had two round-trippers while Andrew Easton also went yard for the Raiders.
Sheldon Kelly Jr. picked up the win.
The second make-up game saw the Thunderbirds downed 21-9 by the Warriors.
Marcel Pagee hit an inside-the-park homer and earned the win.
Clint Bruyere suffered the loss.
Jacob Jack smacked a grand slam to spark the Braves to a 23-0 drubbing of the Lakers last Tuesday night.
Cole Tymkin earned the win while James Yerxa took the loss.
Ryder Woolsey homered as the Blue Knights eked out a 6-5 win over the Warriors.
JJ Landry nabbed the win while Rob McGinnis was tagged with the loss.
The Raiders and Eagles battled to a 7-7 tie, with Mike Jourdain belting the lone homer of the game for Couchiching.
Jackson Arpin was the starting pitcher for Stratton while Sheldon Kelly Jr. toed the rubber for the Raiders.
The Tigers downed the Northwest Bay Chieftains 9-7, with Carl Big George Jr. earning the win while Darren Smith took the loss.
The Goldeneyes at Sight & Sound and Manitou at Rainy River were postponed, which will be played at a later date.
