A half-dozen local runners journeyed to Duluth for Saturday’s 27th-annual Grandma’s Marathon, led by a mile-churning medicine man.
Dr. Daryl Brain of Fort Frances was one hot-footed healer as he completed the full marathon in 3:43.25—placing 1,491st in the field of 6,968.
Christina Tolen of Nestor Falls also endured the tortures of the 26-mile ordeal, finishing 4,729th with a time of 4:36.25 in her first ever full marathon.
Megan Ross led the charge from this area in the half-marathon, placing 1,605th in the field of 4,778 with a clocking of 1:54.36.
Bob Tkachuk garnered a personal best time of 2:04.09 to come 2,400th while Kerri Tolen of Emo posted a mark of 2:05.33 to wind up 2,513th.
Mary-Beth Tkachuk rounded out the local contingent, coming in 4,218th with a time of 2:40.22.
Thunder Bay resident Amy Abbink, who works in Fort Frances, managed a time of 1:54.01 to finish 1,534th.
