BP Royals tops at Falls tourney

Press Release

The Fort Frances BP Royals PeeWee ‘AA’ squad went 3-1 this past weekend in winning the 2010 International Falls PeeWee ‘A’ Hockey Classic.
Game one of the round-robin series saw the BP Royals face host International Falls, who skated away with a 3-1 win.
In game two against a team from Montecello, Mn., the Royals had to battle back from behind to earn a 7-6 victory.
In game three, Eveleth had the unfortunate experience of feeling the will and determination of a championship team.
They suffered a lopsided 8-2 loss at the hands of the Royals.
After the round-robin, the Royals found themselves in the ‘A’ final against cross-border rival International Falls.
But the Royals where determined not to disappoint this time.
After trailing 2-0 in the first period, the Royals began to apply pressure at an unprecedented rate—the likes the Falls team obviously was not accustomed to.
The Royals took the lead in the second period and never looked back.
With strong forechecking, timely goals, defensively sound play, and a disciplined Canadian brand of hockey, the Royals earned a convincing 7-4 victory to claim their first tournament title of the season.
The BP Royals will be on the road again this weekend with anticipation of bringing home another gold medal as they play in a PeeWee ‘AA’ tournament in Kenora.
