Bowman wins yachting fall series debut

Ron Bowman picked up right where he left off.
After finishing off the Rendezvous Yacht Club’s spring series with four consecutive wins to clinch the series championship, Bowman and his vessel “In Tune” continued their hot streak on Wednesday with a victory in the opening race of the fall series at Sand Bay.
With soft 10-15 mph winds forcing the race to be limited to five legs, Bowman didn’t hesitate from the start, as he jumped to an early lead and protected it the entire way to win in a time of 33.63 decimal minutes.
Quinn McCarthy and “Sedna” took second spot in a time of 36.35, while Colin Hewitt and “Ariba” sailed into third place with a clocking of 40.24.
“Kemosabe” and helmsman Bob Algie, the only captain to fly his spinnaker in the race which helped him pass “Ariba,” crossed the line ahead of Hewitt. But with the club’s handicap system, Algie was relegated to fourth with a corrected time of 40.75.
The fall series continues this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The next Saturday series race will be the Kettle Falls Race on July 26, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Thunderbird Lodge on Rainy Lake.
