Bowman tops in yacht race

In the second race of the Wednesday Night Fall Series on July 26, Ron Bowman (In Tune) won in a corrected time of 37:12, his second win of the series.
However, he was challenged by Jack Bartlett (Mad Hatter) who finished just 2 seconds behind Bowman after a strong second half of the race.
Tim Mack (Night Moves) finished out the top 3 in a seven boat race.
The race consisted of a 6 leg Olympic Triangle sailed under moderate NE winds on Sand Bay.
Bowman placed 1st overall in the Wednesday Night Spring Series, followed by Quinn McCarthy (Sedna) in second and Colin Hewitt (Ariba) in third.
Tim Mack (Night Moves) and Jas Spencer (Beagle) rounded out the top five of 11 skippers who sailed in the 7 race series.
One race was lost to a lack of wind.
The Kettle Falls Regatta, the premier sailing race on Rainy Lake, will take place on Saturday Aug. 5. The race is approximately 30 miles long and is the fourth race of the Saturday Series which has seen victories by Hewitt (Sandpoint Island and Canada Day) and Bowman (Mermaid Rock).
Community Sail, in which the public is offered a chance to go for a sailboat ride, was extremely popular this season.
Over 100 people have taken the opportunity to go for a fun sail on some beautiful summer evenings on Rainy Lake.
For those who enjoyed their evening or missed out on the Tuesday program, mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 19.
Woody’s Fairly Reliable Regatta sails out of Ranier with anyone willing to volunteer as crew.
Maybe some will take up the sport, which is a great way to enjoy the lake without spending over $3.00 on a gallon of gas!
