The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry laid 15 charges and issued 10 warnings during a June 1 enforcement blitz at the Pigeon River border crossing southwest of Thunder Bay.
Conservation officers and the canine unit contacted 472 people from various U.S. states.
Officers checked for compliance with the Ontario Fishery Regulations, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Invasive Species Act, and Fisheries Act, particularly focusing on the importation of live bait and invasive species.
Charges included:
•fishing without a licence;
•possessing an over-limit of fish; and
•packaging fish so the species could not be counted or identified.
