Bonot sixth at junior playdowns

The Trevor Bonot rink of Stratton finished in sixth place with a 3-4 record at the junior men’s district playdowns at the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay.
Bonot, along with third Adam Bolen, second Brendan Loney, and lead Matt Neilson, wrapped up play Saturday on a positive note by beating the Matthew Dupuis rink (Red Rock) 9-7 in nine ends.
Earlier in the day, they had been shelled 10-1 by the Jeff MacDonald rink (Port Arthur).
Defending champion Brian Adams (Port Arthur) finished atop the standings with a 7-0 record and will go to North Bay on Dec. 13-16 to defend his provincial title.
His rink will be joined by Dustin Kroeker’s foursome (Fort William), who defeated Mike Woznesensky (Fort William) in a tie-breaker 9-6 to advance to North Bay.
Bonot had opened action last Thursday with 8-2 and 10-9 losses to Adams and Woznesensky, respectively, before beating Greg Doran (Port Arthur) 11-5 on Friday morning.
Bonot evened his record at 2-2 later Friday with a 10-6 win over Mike Barnett (Terrace Bay) but then fell to Kroeker in 11 ends 7-6 that night.
Bonot had qualified for the district playdowns after going unchallenged at the Zone 7 playdowns scheduled in Stratton last month.
Fellow Stratton skip Kelly Neilson will take her junior ladies’ rink of third Amber Sheloff, second Amy Neilson, and lead Giselle Bonot to their district playdowns this week (Nov. 22-25) in Balmertown.
