Bonot, Sheloff top Emo bonspiel

Diane Bonot downed Florence Ogden 12-3 in the ‘A’ final of the annual ladies’ bonspiel last weekend at the Emo Curling Club.
Bonot, whose team included Carolee Strachan, Lucinda Meyers, and Cheryl Aduono, scored five in the first end and then stole three in the second en route to the lopsided victory.
Ogden’s team included Joanne Hyatt, Betty Dodge, and Dorothy Bergstrom.
Sandy Shrumm, curling with Vera Woolsey, Glenda Grennier and Fern Sequin, set claim to third spot in the ‘A’ event.

Beacham’s rink included Trudy Badiuk, Tracy Hyatt, and Mickey McKinnon.
Sandra Williams, curling with June Bonot, Delores Romyn, and Rhonda Pollard, placed third in the ‘B’ event.
Angela Lee, curling with Lisa Bolen, Danielle Shrumm, and Sara Boily, fell behind 2-0 in the first end of the ‘C’ final against Ann Michl but then roared back with three in the second and a steal of four in the third to win easily.
Michl’s team included Laurie Anderson, Cindy Mowe, and Donna Heyens
Valdean DeGagne, Peggie Loyie, Gaydonna Baker, and Coleen Vennenchenko placed third in the ‘C’ event.
In men’s action, the Curtis Sheloff rink jumped out to a 4-0 lead after just two ends in the ‘A’ final against the K. Wilson foursome, who shook hands after six ends.
Sheloff’s team included Bob Fretter, Gary Sliworsky, and Richard Peri.
Brian Bonot came third while Doug Hodge placed fourth in the ‘A’ event.
Meanwhile, Clint Barton’s team peeled off Tom Jackson’s stones in the final end to preserve a one-point victory in the ‘B’ final.
After trading points through the first four ends, Barton took charge by scoring two in the fifth and stealing one in the sixth before Jackson made it close with two in the eighth.
Dave Broman finished third while Shawn Loney placed fourth in the ‘B’ event.
Finally, Grant Meyers had little trouble disposing of the Kevin Busch foursome in the ‘C’ final, walking away with a 7-0 victory in just five ends.
Alex Anderson placed third and Nevin Bonot fourth in the ‘C’ event.
The bonspiel, which ran Thursday through Sunday, attracted 12 ladies’ and 16 men’s teams from the host Emo, Stratton, and Fort Frances curling clubs.
