The Trevor Bonot rink of Stratton earned their first win at the junior men’s district playdowns at the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay.
After losing their first two games yesterday, Bonot got on the winning track this morning with a convincing 11-5 win over Greg Doran (Port Arthur).
Bonot’s rink (1-2), consisting of third Adam Bolen, second Brendan Loney, and lead Matt Neilson, were to play two more games today before wrapping up round-robin action with two draws tomorrow.
Tiebreakers, if necessary, will be played Sunday.
The top two teams from the eight-rink field will advance to the provincial showdown Dec. 13-16 in North Bay.
Bonot had opened action yesterday with an 8-2 loss to defending champ Brian Adams rink (Port Arthur) before being edged 10-9 by Mike Woznesensky (Fort William) last night.
Adams, who is 3-0 to start defence of his district title, went on to win the bronze medal at last year’s national junior championships.
