The B•Macs Bantam “AA” hockey team blanked Grand Forks 5-0 in the championship game Sunday of an eight-team tournament in Park Rapids, Mn.
Ian Lockman, assisted by A.J. Tucker, opened the scoring with 3:24 left in the first period. Then they stretched that lead to 3-0 after two periods on goals by Cody Mosbeck and Bryce Witherspoon (assisted by Lockman).
Tucker added an unassisted short-handed marker midway in the third before Jeff Friesen, assisted by Tucker and Ira Ottertail, closed out the scoring with 5:45 to play.
Dustin Tkachuk earned the shutout in goal.
The B•Macs reached the final after winning both their games in pool play. They opened action Saturday with a 13-0 trouncing over Litchfield, Mn. and then edged Red Lake Falls 3-2.
Mosbeck scored four goals while A.J. Tucker added a hat trick and three assists against Litchfield. Lockman, Friesen, and Witherspoon each netted a pair of goals.
Witherspoon also assisted on three goals while Friesen had two assists.
Tkachuk again earned the shutout.
Against Red Lake Falls, the B•Macs had to battle back for a 2-0 deficit midway through the second period.
Tucker scored twice to tie the game, then Friesen, assisted by Tucker, notched the game-winner with 4:12 left in regulation time.
The B•Macs return to tournament action later this month in Winnipeg.
