Michael Richards scored with 2:32 to go in the third period to lift the Kenora Thistles to a 3-2 victory Sunday over the local B•Macs ‘AA’ Bantams in the semi-finals of a six-team tournament in Dryden.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and 2-2 at the end of two.
Jeff Friesen, who had an impressive offensive weekend for the Fort team, netted both B•Macs goals. A.J. Tucker picked up a pair of assists.
The B•Macs had finished the round-robin portion with a 2-2-1 record.
They opened play Friday afternoon by dumping the Keewatin Panthers 7-1. Tucker and Kris Esselink each had a pair of goals while Ira Ottertail added a goal and two assists.
Nathan Miller and Clayton Windigo also tallied.
The B•Macs, paced by Friesen’s five-goal outburst, then blanked the Sioux ‘AAA’ PeeWees 6-0.
Jermaine Atatise netted the other marker while Tucker added five assists.
But the B•Macs lost a close one in their next game against the Thistles, giving up a late goal to fall 4-3. Freisen (two) and Tucker were the goal scorers.
Then after being doubled 8-4 by the Dryden Hornets (Tucker netted all four goals), they skated to a 4-4 tie against Sioux Lookout to wrap up the round-robin.
Friesen (two), Tucker, and Ian Lockman scored in that game.
Next tournament action for the B•Macs is in Fargo, N.D. at the end of January.
