Blue Knights romp over Royals


Vaughan Wilson and Jaxon Calder both homered to pace the Barwick Blue Knights to a 15-2 romp over the Rainy River Royals in Rainy River District Fastball League action on Tuesday night.
Tanner Smith garnered the pitching win for the Blue Knights (10-4) over Myron Armstrong of the Royals (7-5).
Elsewhere, the Fort Frances Braves improved to a league-best 12-0 with a 15-0 shutout of the Raiders in Couchiching.
Jaden Gustafson pitched well and homered twice while Cole Tymkin also went yard for the Braves.
Sheldon Kelly Sr. was tagged with the loss for the Raiders (8-6).
Despite a homer from Darryl Beacham, it was the Dawson Tigers who eked out a 7-6 win over the Sabaskong Goldeneyes.
Kevin Gemmell nabbed the win for the Tigers (7-6) over Beacham of the Goldeneyes (2-10).
The Sight & Sound Wolves outslugged the Northwest Bay Chieftains to claim a wild 15-12 affair.
John Desaulniers homered twice and earned the pitching win while Jared Baker and Kurtis Wepruk also went deep for the Wolves (8-4).
Curtis Smith clubbed a homer in a losing cause while Braydon Smith suffered the defeat for the Chieftains (2-11).
Guy Arpin was solid on the mound and smacked a homer to pace the Stratton Eagles (6-7) to a 7-5 win over the Sabaskong Lakers.
James Yerxa was saddled with the loss for the Lakers, who fell to 6-7.
Windey’s Warriors (7-7) were awarded a forfeit 7-0 win over the Manitou Thunderbirds (2-10).
Tonight, Tuesday (July 23), and next Thursday (July 25) will serve as make-up game nights for the league.
The first round of the RRDFL playoffs then will follow once all games have been played and final standings are confirmed.
Meanwhile, Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League last night.
Last night’s storm caused all but one of the five games on the schedule to be postponed.
The Fort Frances Mud Dogs (5-6-4) and Couchiching Raiders (13-1-1) called it a tie after the inclement weather quickly blew in.
The Fort Frances Her-icanes at Fort Frances Angels game has been rescheduled for tonight (weather permitting).
The Red Gut Babes (1-9-3) at Northwest Bay Beavers (10-4), Dawson Tigers (4-9) at Renegades (11-1), and Manitou T-Birdies (1-12) at Sabaskong Tebinaak (2-9) games all will be made up in the near future.
The Big Grassy Lynx (6-5-1) had the bye.
On Tuesday night, the Renegades rolled to a 7-0 shutout of the Lynx in a make-up game for the one that was postponed back on July 3.
Karma Andy pitched brilliantly and homered to pace the Renegades’ attack.
Candace Handorgan suffered the loss for Big Grassy.
