The rink may not be big enough to hold this clash of the titans.
The defending SIJHL champion Borderland Thunder will get a significant early-season test when the OCN Blizzard, the five-time defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League titleholders, come to the Ice for Kids Arena for an exhibition tilt Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets will cost $5, and will only be sold at the door the night of the game.
The Blizzard have dominated the MJHL since entering the league for the 1996/97 season, making the finals in six of their seven years of existence, and reaching the final of the 2002 Royal Bank Cup before falling to the host Halifax Oland Exports.
The game against the Thunder will mark the first of four games in a four-day span which will comprise the Blizzard’s barnstorming tour against three SIJHL squads.
OCN will also take on the Fort William First Nation Stars in Thunder Bay on Sept. 6-7, and then go head-to-head with the K&A Golden Hawks on Sept. 8.
