Blasters capture crown

The Boston Pizza Ball Blasters are queens of the hill.
Sydney Radigan scored twice, and Becky Selman went end-to-end to net the game-winner with five minutes left, as the Ball Blasters doubled the Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes 4-2 in the final of the Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League last night.
Radigan’s pair of one-timed bullets two minutes apart in the first half gave the regular-season champs a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Abby Sanders beat Ball Blasters’ keeper Phyllis Pierson twice after the break to knot the score.
But Sanders’ shot at the hat trick was denied on a great defensive play by Selman, who knocked the ball away to the far wall and then chased it down.
With nobody marking her, Selman weaved her way up the floor before lacing a drive through the legs of Rockettes’ keeper Maria Sanders.
Tara MacEachern sealed the win with a missile from the left-wing in the final minute.
The third-place game, meanwhile, turned into a friendly scrimmage after the U15 Borderland Lightning were awarded the victory by forfeit over the Main Street Mayhem.
The league will holds its awards banquet in the coming weeks.
