Katie barred the door and took the lead all at the same time.
With her hat trick, Katie Beninger spearheaded a 5-0 win for first-place Kicker Instinct over third-place Tough Enough in last night’s only game in the Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer League at Fort Frances High School.
Beninger vaulted into top spot in the league goal scoring race with her big night, as she now has 10 goals for the season to put her one up on Paige Nelson of Goal Diggers.
Becky Selman sniped her fourth of the year and Jenn Pagnotta pounded home her first to round out the scoring for Kicker Instinct (5-1) against D-Feeters (2-4), who have now lost two straight.
Nelson notified her team ahead of time she would be unable to make Goal Diggers’ evening matchup against Tough Enough.
As it turned out, it was a moot point, as Goal Diggers (3-3) moved into second place all by itself with a forfeit win to get its second victory in a row.
Tough Enough (2-4), which won by forfeit itself last week to create a three-way tie for second, is now even with D-Feeters at the bottom of the table.
The indoor excitement resumes next Wednesday (March 1) when Tough Enough and D-Feeters meet at 7 p.m., followed by Kicker Instinct and Goal Diggers at 8:15 p.m.
