If this is what the second half of the season holds in store, the Northwest Bay Beavers would like the first half back.
The Fort Frances Her-icanes snapped the Beavers’ eight-game winning streak with a convincing 16-5 road win last night to kick off East Division action in the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League.
Jess Woodgate belted her first homer of the season for the ‘Canes, who now have six-straight wins.
The Beavers, meanwhile, couldn’t maintain the momentum they had gained after handing the Big Grassy Lynx their first loss of the season Monday night.
The only other game last night saw the Dawson Diggers rout the host Big Island Wildcats 37-6.
Dawson got a home run from Laurie Fairfield while Roxanne Handorgan smacked one for the Wildcats.
Four other games were postponed due to inclement weather.
Makeup dates have not been announced.
In Rainy River District Fastball League action Tuesday, John Desaulniers earned the shutout in a 6-0 victory by the Sight & Sound Wolves over Windey’s Warriors at VanJura.
The Wolves remained one of two undefeated teams in the league while the Warriors fell into a fourth-place tie with the Couchiching Raiders.
The Raiders earned a 12-8 win over the visiting Sabaskong Lakers—using three home runs to power the offence.
As for the first-place Rainy Lake Pirates, they stayed in the zone by dumping the host Sabaskong Cubs 11-2.
Other games saw the Dawson Tigers down the visiting Big Island Huskies 6-4 while the host Manitou Thunderbirds edged the Stratton Bobcats 4-3.
The men resume action tonight (weather permitting) with the Pirates and Wolves colliding in a clash of the unbeatens at 7 p.m. at VanJura.
Other games include the Raiders facing the Warriors at Couchiching.
Barwick visiting Stratton, Rainy River hosting Dawson, Manitou on the road against Big Island, and an all-Sabaskong battle between the Cubs and Lakers round out the schedule.
