Calling all sun-seekers: Fun in the Sun wants you!
The annual Canada Day celebrations will feature a new wrinkle this July 1 with a 4-on-4 beach volleyball tournament scheduled to take place along with the rest of the festivities at Pither’s Point Park.
Each team is guaranteed three games, with the entry fee being just $15 per person.
At least one person of the opposite gender has to be on the court at all times, with games to begin at 8:30 a.m.
“I guess we’ve had a sand court up at the Point, but it hasn’t been maintained in a couple of years,” noted co-organizer Amy Wilson-Hands.
“But the town has tilled it all up and put in some new sand, so it allows us to use it this year.
“We’re also looking at having a DJ with some rocking tunes, so it should be a lot of fun,” Wilson-Hands enthused.
The event already has generated interest from six teams, and only six more will be accepted.
