Bass tourney to go ahead

The Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship will be celebrating its 16th birthday after all.
“We’re still in a ‘go’ pattern,” committee chairman Tom Fry said this morning.
“We actually did quite well in terms of filling out director positions, but now we’re just looking to fill positions with sponsor relations, daytime events, and the co-chair position.”
A number of residents stepped forward at last night’s board meeting.
Giselle Oliver has come on board in charge of volunteer services, Robin Reed will co-chair tournament operations alongside returning member Steve Lundon, and Anthony Mason has taken the post as computer systems chair.
Dave Ashworth is now in charge of nighttime entertainment while Jeff Stevenson has signed on as co-chair of finance to aid Stacy Hahkala.
Pam Buttner remains on board in charge of angler registrations, with Cathy Tovey to help her.
Lauris Werenko and Wayne Allen will continue to maintain bar operations. Werenko also will remain in charge of food services.
Doug Cain remains on the board, now in charge of site and facilities, while Jim Cumming maintains his post as recording secretary.
Fry said anglers will be receiving a mail-out containing information about the 2010 tournament within the next week or two.
The deadline for a deposit of $250 is set for Nov. 30.
“For teams who pay in full by that time, they’ll get in an early bird draw for a refunding of the full amount,” Fry noted.
The 2010 tournament will run during the final week of July.
