Barwick beats Rainy River to bag RRDFL title

Barwick continued their undefeated streak in the Rainy River District Fastball League playoffs with a 7-3 victory Tuesday night over Rainy River in the league final.
The Blue Knights came into the RRDFL playoffs as the defending champ—although certainly not the favourites after a sub-par regular season—but proved they belonged with consecutive victories over Big Island, Big Grassy (the No. 1 ranked team during the regular season), Stratton, and Big Island again in the semi-finals before ousting the Rainy River Royals in Tuesday night’s championship game.
Blue Knights’ manager George Oltsher pitched a solid game from the mound, and the Barwick bats provided him with more late-inning heroics (many of their playoff victories came in the final two innings), breaking a 1-1 game wide open in the sixth inning en route to the 7-3 win.
Murray Armstrong had a home run for the Royals—but it wasn’t enough to unseat the defending champs.
