Bantams miss shot at title

It was close but no cigar for the local Taggs Bantam hockey team last weekend as they posted a 2-1- 1 record at a tournament in Thunder Bay to finish second in their pool.
Another win would have propelled Taggs into the semi-finals— and a shot at the tournament championship.
The team opened play Friday with a convincing 4-0 win over the Neebing Hawks. Kevin Bobczynski led the attack with a pair of goals while Matt McLellan and Andrew Easton added the others.
Jordan Davis (three), Taylor Jorgenson, Justin Scott, Steve Boileau, and Kyle Herr all garnered assists.
Their second game later Friday was a battle from start to finish against the Thunder Bay Selects.
The Selects got an early goal, but just over a minute later, Danny Chapman (from Matt McLellan and Justin Scott) tied the score.
The Selects then went up 2-1 midway through the second before Easton netted his first of two (from Davis and Bobczynski) with 4:52 left in the second.
In the third, the Selects once again took a one-goal lead, but it was Easton (from Davis) with 11 minutes to go that sealed a 3-3 tie.
Then Saturday against the North End Flames, the shots were many but the goals wouldn’t come in a 3- 0 loss.
The Flames scored once in the second period and twice in the third to ice the win despite being badly outshot by Taggs.
Taggs the wrapped up pool play later Saturday with a 2-0 shutout over the South End Rangers.
Davis, assisted by Bobczynski, put Taggs up 1-0 at 10:07 of the second period before Jorgenson, again from Bobczynski, rounded out the scoring four minutes later.
Chapman earned special accolades as the tournament’s top defenceman (as voted by coaches from all the participating teams).
