They took the scenic route to Sault Ste. Marie but they’re on their way.
The Fort Frances rink of skip Anika Beaudry, third Tory Beaudry, second Jillian Cousineau, lead Katrina Slomke, and fifth Ashley Payne won the last-chance West region qualifier in Nipigon over the weekend to advance to the Bantam girls’ provincial championship Feb. 25-28.
Beaudry went 3-0 to take first place in the double round-robin event that also involved Vanessa Wyllie of Thunder Bay (1-2) and Julianne Slattery of Longlac (1-3).
The locals thumped Slattery 11-5 in their opener Friday evening, then used a last-rock winner by Beaudry to score a deuce for a 7-5 victory over Wyllie on Saturday morning.
The Fort crew then beat Slattery 7-4 later Saturday to eliminate the other two rinks from further contention.
Fort skip Chris Silver also will be in the Soo after his team of third Daniel Vandenbrand, second Jason Bazylewski, and lead Griffin Garuk captured the Bantam boys’ Region 1 title in Sioux Lookout last month.
