Badminton trio gain berths at OFSAA tourney

Three Muskies advanced to the all-Ontario badminton tournament after NWOSSAA play yesterday in Kenora.
The senior mixed doubles’ team of Siobhan Devlin and Jamie Booth came in second yesterday to move on after a tough opening match.
“They had their first tough match against Kenora. They went three games and lost, and tried hard not to lose any more points the rest of the time,” said coach Manami Alexander.
“They played doubles’ rotation and started to receive some smashes and return hard shots, and their serves were right where they were supposed to be,” she added.
Also qualifying for OFSAA was Muskie Tara Svoboda, who took third in the senior girls’ singles division.
“Tara played well with her high clear shots mixed with her drop shots so she moved her opponent back and forth well,” said Alexander. “She kept her shots where they were supposed to go, on the lines and near the net.”
Due to a lower number of competitors, the top four in each division at NWOSSAA advance to the all-Ontario’s instead of the top two.
Thunder Bay is hosting the provincial showdown May 3-5.
“[They all] played well and improved throughout the tournament, and are ready for OFSAA,” Alexander noted.
