Being on the short end of the scoreboard was less painful this time around for the Muskie ‘B’ football team.
While victims of a 28-6 defeat against the visiting Warroad Warriors yesterday afternoon, Muskie coach Tony Geense said his squad took some noticeable strides from their 40-6 loss in Warroad back on Sept. 30.
“I was quite impressed,” said Geense, whose team scored its only touchdown on a 70-yard punt return by Craig McTavish.
“There was some definite improvement,” he noted. “Our offence did pretty well going up and down the field, but just couldn’t score when they got close enough.
“The defence was pretty good, too, considering the numbers we had [22 players] and how many guys we had playing both ways.”
Geense pointed to the team’s running game, as well as the play of quarterback Ty Griffith and defensive lineman Jake Esselink, as other positives for the Muskies (0-3).
The “Bees” will play their final scheduled game of the season this Tuesday (Oct. 15) in Roseau against the Rams, who won 30-7 here back on Sept. 5.
The Muskie ‘A’ team (0-5) was playing the Grant Park Pirates in Winnipeg High School Football League action here this afternoon. Kick-off time was at 3 p.m.
