Green’s Predators (Fort Frances) edged Atikokan 2-1 in overtime of the ‘A’ final Sunday to capture top honours at an Atom tournament at Emo.
The Emo Selects took the ‘B’ crown while Gillons’ (Fort Frances) won the ‘C’ title.
Mitch Kerr gave Atikokan a 1-0 lead in the final but Green’s battled back to tie the game at the 10-minute mark of the third when Myles Kakeeway hit the twine from Kyle Calder and Jared Sandelovich.
After regulation time ended in a tie, the teams played five-on-five first but couldn’t score. But when it came down to four-on-four, Sandelovich scored from Josh Sigurdson on a scramble in front for the hard-fought win.
The ‘B’ final also came down to overtime, with the Emo Selects winning 3-2 over the Firemen (Fort Frances) on Luke Judson’s goal.
The Selects had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals three minutes apart by Jonny French and Judson.
This held up until the eight-minute mark of the second when Nina Bird put the Firemen on the board. Bird then tied the game at 2-2 at the 10-minute mark of the third to set the stage for overtime.
And it was all Gillons’ in the ‘C’ final against the Emo Hawks, tallying three times in the first period on goals by Matt Hebert, Evan McCabe, and Mitch Carlson en route to a 5-0 win.
Hebert netted his second goal in the middle period, with Neil Roy rounding out the scoring with just 30 seconds left in the game.
