Arpin tops race in Eganville

Steve Arpin wrapped up the snowmobile racing season on a winning note Sunday, taking the checkered flag in the Champ 440 division at the “World Series of Racing” in Eganville, Ont.
“He was racing against the best in the world,” noted his brother, Chuck Arpin Jr.
“It was pretty unreal. There was a podium, huge trophy, and champagne–he couldn’t figure out how to open [the champagne],” Arpin Jr. laughed.
Racing began Friday after Arpin spent the early part of the week testing his sled. His brother said it was running a little slow on Friday and Saturday.
“We were doing all right. We were somewhere in the middle,” Arpin Jr. remarked.
Also Sunday, Arpin placed third in the 440 Pro Stock division but did not finish the 600 Pro Stock due to problems with his sled.
“We had more trouble and couldn’t get it going. We would fix something and then something else would go,” noted his brother.
Arpin has finished racing this season but he will be going to Yellowstone Park to test the new 2002 Polaris sleds.
“They will test all the manufactures sled’s and rate them. Each manufacturer chooses a driver and they picked Steve,” Arpin Jr. said.
