This was no Caribbean cruise.
Fort Frances native Steve Arpin sped his way to a fourth-place finish in the final of Sunday’s Red Bull Global Rallycross event at the Bushy Park race track in Barbados.
Running his Ford Fiesta ST for Chip Ganassi Racing, Arpin came in 7.716 seconds behind Tanner Foust (Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross), who swept both finals.
Arpin was eighth in qualifying, but moved up to place third in both his opening heat and then his semi-final heat to claim a spot in the final.
It was a different story on Saturday as Arpin bowed out of the final after four laps and had to settle for eighth place.
He was ninth in qualifying, fourth in his first heat and semi-final heat, and then second in the last-chance qualifier.
Foust’s double victory allowed him to zip into second place in the driver standings with 376 points, trailing only teammate Scott Speed (412).
Arpin sits in seventh at 318 but only is two points up on Joni Wiman (Olsberg MSE).
The season concludes Nov. 4 in Las Vegas.
The race will be shown Nov. 8 on NBCSN at 5:30 p.m. (CDT).
