You can’t win ’em all.
Fort Frances driver Steve Arpin found that out over the weekend, having his two-race winning streak on the ARCA circuit snapped with a 14th-place finish at the Talladega ARCA 250 on Friday night.
He then finished 26th in the Aaron’s 312 in his Nationwide Series debut yesterday, also at Talladega Superspeedway.
Arpin had set himself up well for yesterday’s race, sitting fourth on the starting grid.
But the race was a roller-coaster for the 26-year-old as he tumbled to 16th spot on the second lap.
By Lap 29, he had climbed up to fifth on a restart, but then crashed on Lap 113 after making contact with Colin Braun.
He had completed 118 of 120 laps when Brad Keselowski crossed the finish line.
In Friday’s ARCA race, Arpin also lost ground on his starting position, going from fifth to 14th.
He also surrendered the points lead to Justin Marks, whose 1,295 total Arpin now trails by 20.
In related news, Bob Fichuk of Pinewood Sports here confirmed Arpin had signed a multi-year deal with JR Motorsports to compete in the Nationwide Series.
The plan is that Arpin still will compete in both ARCA and Nationwide races this season, sliding into as many Nationwide competitions as his schedule will allow.
Arpin’s next scheduled race is on the Nationwide circuit—the Bubba Burger 250 at Richmond International Speedway this Friday (April 30).
The next scheduled ARCA race is the Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway on May 23.
