A return to dirt track racing proved fruitful for local driver Steve Arpin yesterday afternoon.
Arpin picked up his third ARCA victory of the year by holding off 32 challengers in the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
Arpin kicked off the day fourth on the starting grid, but worked his way up and passed Tom Hessert on lap 62 to take the lead for good, according to an article on ARCA’s official website.
Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, the win didn’t do much in the big picture, as Arpin moved up from 14th to 13th with 2,795 points, while leaders Hessert and Patrick Sheltra are perched with 3,870.
It’s a short week for the circuit, as the next race, the Northern Ohio Ford Dealers 200, is slated for Sunday (Sept. 12) at Toledo Speedway.
It’s the 17th race of 20 scheduled.
