Local driver Steve Arpin was in position for a solid finish at the American 200 at Rockingham Speedway—for a while.
However, the 26-year-old ran out of fuel late in the race to drop from second all the way to a 12th-place finish.
After starting fifth, Arpin even led briefly—holding top spot from Laps 53-60 before relinquishing the lead to Patrick Sheltra and never again taking the advantage.
Arpin finished the season in 12th place on the ARCA circuit, finishing with 3,735 points, 10 ahead of 13th-place Nick Igdalsky.
Sheltra won the overall title with 4,965 points.
Although he wasn’t in contention for the ARCA points title, Arpin will be looking to defend his Most Popular Driver award at the ARCA awards ceremony Dec. 4 in Covington, Ky.
