The Aquanauts swim team put in a solid performance at the May Sprint Development Meet here Saturday, including several of the younger members who were competing in a meet for the first time.
Kyle Perrott led the way Saturday with personal best times in all four of his races. Amanda Allan, 13, and Jennifer Hawley, 10, were next with three personal bests in all three of their races.
Jessica Cousineau, 9, Rachel Dutton, 10, Alyssa Holliday, 10, Kenneth Kellar, 10, and Nichole Lowey, 9, each finished with two personal bests in three races.
Jamie Beadow, 13, Ashleigh Dutton, 13, Alex Parent, 11, Matthew Parent, 12, and Laurel Perrott, 9, all had one personal best time.
“It was a great year,” said Murray. “Everyone improved so much with their technical performances.
“To promote the younger swimmers, it was the first time competing for many of them and it shows we have a good mixture in our program–we have all types of swimmers,” she added.
Murray said Saturday’s meet was more suited for the younger swimmers than the older ones, 13 of which will take part in a long-course qualifying meet in Thunder Bay on May 26-28.
“The older swimmers didn’t have a chance to get tapered for this meet,” said Murray. “The younger ones were more prepared.”
But Murray expects to see a good showing from her older swimmers in Thunder Bay. “To have 13 qualify with fast times is a pretty high ratio,” she said.
Swimmers from Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and the U.S. are expected to take part.
In other news, the Aquanauts will be holding their season-ending awards banquet Wednesday, June 7. Those interested in attending are asked to call Connee Badiuk or Debbie Murray.
