Aquanauts do well in Balmertown

Fourteen members of the Fort Frances Aquanauts travelled to Balmertown last weekend and nearly all of them clocked at least one personal best time.
“We had an awesome weekend,” head coach Debbie Murray noted Monday morning. “They had really good results and looking forward to the next meet.
“The swimmers have been training really hard for regionals and from what we saw [last] weekend, they should be promising,” she added.
Murray noted several swimmers also qualified for the Manitoba-Saskatchewan championship in March.
“Rachel Dutton did exceptionally well,” enthused Murray. “She had [four] best times and each swim gave her an improved ‘A’ standard time, which means she is milli-seconds off a ‘AA’ standard time.
“That is quite an acheivement for a 10-year-old.”
Murray added Karli McKinnon acheived an ‘A’ standard in the 200m freestyle and a ‘AA’ standard in the 50m butterfly. She noted Heather Dutton didn’t have a personal best but she was right on her time while Jennifer Hawley also had a good competition.
Murray said the team is a very dedicated group of young swimmers. “They work and train hard. The town should be proud of them,” she noted.
