“They had excellent times,” said Aquanauts’ coach Dawnn Taylor. “The younger ones that swam went out and bettered their short-course times.
“Anika Beaudry bested everything, taking 10 seconds off some of her races.
“Andre did his first long-course 200m fly, and sometimes that 200 fly is just a survival technique, but he wanted to do it, and he went in there and did great,” Taylor enthused.
“End of the season, whatever you got left in your body, take it out.”
Sutherland actually will be attending the Manitoba/Saskatchewan long course provincials in early July alongside teammate Donovan Taylor.
Taylor also has qualified for the nationals in Montreal in mid-July.
The pair has begun preparations for their events during morning sessions at the pool.
“Did our first morning swim [Tuesday] at 6:15 to the grumbles and unhappy faces,” Coach Taylor said with a laugh.
“You’ve only got a few weeks, gotta kick it up into high gear,” she stressed.
