Another double for Davis

Staff

Jamie Davis decided to pay tribute the best way he knows how–drive fast, win, and repeat.
The Devlin native, who now lives in Fort Frances, once again left two different groups of rivals choking on his exhaust fumes as he continued his remarkable run of success at the Emo Speedway in 2017.
For the third time this season, Davis won both the WISSOTA Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds feature races during the Borderland Racing Association’s Memorial Race for All Fallen Drivers held June 24.
In the Modifieds division, he bested Emo native Joey Galloway, making a cameo return appearance from his current home of Manor, Sask., while fellow resident Jett Big Eagle placed third.
Then in the Midwest Mods, Davis topped Dayton Brady (Thunder Bay) and Anthony Visser (Emo).
With his division-leading sixth feature win, Davis has catapulted into second place in the Midwest Mods standings with 391 points–a mere eight back of leader and defending champ Cody Ossachuk of Pinewood, who did not finish the feature and wound up 10th.
Mike Wilson of Devlin, who was sixth in the feature, continues to hold down third in the points race (364).
Brody Strachan of Emo continues to lead the Modifieds standings with 395 points, followed by Matt DePiero (371) and fellow Fort driver Gavin Paull (363).
Strachan was fourth in the feature while Paull was seventh and DePiero settled for 10th.
And in the Street Stocks division, 13-year-old Raice Westover of Fort Frances emerged victorious for his second career feature win.
Westover held off Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances, who took second, while Jake Froemke of International Falls was third.
Wilson’s runner-up finish was just enough to squeeze past Kevin Desserre of Dryden and into top spot in the Street Stocks standings with 304 points.
Desserre, who came fifth in the feature, sits at 303.
Jesse Thompson of Emo remains well back in third place (244).
With no racing held due to Canada Day celebrations Saturday, the drivers should be in peak form when action resumes this Saturday (July 8).
Hot laps are at 7 p.m., with the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting).
