Amiel shines in all-star victory

An MVP performance by Fort Frances Junior Sabres’ captain Quinn Amiel helped propel Team Regional to a 13-10 victory over Team Thunder Bay in the SIJHL’s annual all-star game Saturday afternoon at the Ice for Kids Arena here.
Amiel lit the lamp twice and added five assists for seven points in the high-scoring affair that also featured Sabres Mike Ainsworth (two goals, three assists), Alessio Tomassetti (one goal, one assist), Mike Parisien (one assist), Mario Boivin, and goalie Ryan Faragher.
Faragher, whose acrobatic stops helped preserve Team Regional’s three-goal victory, allowed just two goals over 20 minutes in a shooting gallery of a third period.
Also scoring for Team Regional were Marlon Gardner and Colin McIntosh of the Dryden Ice Dogs (each with three goals) and Mike Spearing of the Marathon Renegades.
Colton Kennedy of the Bearcats led Team Thunder Bay with four goals while Travis Jaspers of the Fort William North Stars added a hat trick.
Also scoring for Team Thunder Bay were Ryan Magill (North Stars), David Dawd (Bulldogs), and Randy MacIntyre (Bearcats).
Local players Jared Catholique Bruyere (Marathon Renegades) and Lucas Judson (Bearcats) also suited up for Team Thunder Bay in Saturday afternoon’s game here.
Joining Amiel as award-winners were Gardner of the Ice Dogs, named the Most Sportsmanlike Player, and Michael Bannon (Fort William North Stars) as the Most Valuable Goaltender.
More than 700 fans took in the game, while more than 400 attended the skills competition on Friday evening.
Next up for the fourth-place Sabres are a pair of road games this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 8-9) against the second-place Fort William North Stars.
