The Borderland Thunder and Dryden Ice Dogs will gaze into the crystal ball tonight—if they don’t hit each other over the head with it first.
The two teams square off at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena in their regular-season finale, and will be looking to grab the momentum advantage heading into the best-of-seven SIJHL semi-finals which start here this weekend.
In their last confrontation here March 4, the Thunder battled their way to a 6-3 win in a game that was called off with 9.1 seconds left after one fight and nearly a second one broke out—and left both teams barking at one another from their respective benches.
Thunder head coach Dave Allison didn’t mince words as his troops prepared for any further altercations tonight.
“If they want to come in and start stuff, we’ll kick the [expletive] out of them,” he warned. “We’re capable of playing any way they want to.
“It’s the coaching staff’s responsibility to teach these kids to play with discipline, and teach these kids not only about hockey, but life lessons, as well,” he added.
The first two games of the semi-final series between the Thunder and Ice Dogs will go this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
The teams then will head to Dryden for games three and four March 21-22.
No date or time has been set for game five, if necessary.
Playoff tickets can be purchased at tonight’s game, as well as at Skates and Blades here and the C.C. Complex at Couchiching.
