Allison hockey school cancelled

The AA Developmental Hockey Camp will not run here this summer, owner Dave Allison confirmed Thursday morning.
“We regret not being able to do it,” Allison, a former resident who now coaches the AHL’s Iowa Stars, said from Des Moines. “We had some really loyal people year after year who would support the camp.”
Allison said because he no longer owns a home in Fort Frances, to run the annual camp is simply not feasible.
“Most of the people who came to the camp were from out of town,” noted Allison. “Don’t get me wrong, the local people who did attend the camp were very loyal.”
He also said local sponsors aided in the success of the camp over the past seven years.
Allison, who once coached the Ottawa Senators for a stint, said those who attended his hockey camp, which he started with his brother, Mike, a former NHL’er, would concentrate on improving their skills and have a better understanding of their abilities.
“I hope they all walked away having made progress,” he remarked.
Allison also said there’s now an opportunity for other hockey leaders to do something.
“Anybody can take it over,” he said. “There are other great programs out there that people can benefit from, as well.”
