Alexander second in Winnipeg

Four members of the Fort Frances Badminton Club competed at the Winnipeg City Jr. Open badminton tournament at the Wildewood Club over weekend.
Anika Alexander was the top local finisher, taking top honours in the under-12 division.
The achievement was particularly impressive given she was the youngest competitor in the field—a nine-year-old competing against 10- and 11-year -old players.
Alexander’s win also marked the first time any FFBC member had won a junior singles title in any of the age categories at a Manitoba provincial tournament.
She didn’t lose a set throughout the competition, beating Patricia Salceda (21-11, 21-13) in the quarter-finals, Isaac Morgyn (21-17, 21-14) in the semi-finals, and then Haley Nakonechny (21-18, 21-9) in the final.
Other notable finishes by FFBC members included:
•Kimika Alexander—first place (under-14 girls’ doubles consolation);
•Sarah Bogacki—second place (under-14 mixed doubles consolation); and
•Bogacki and Anika Alexander—second place (under-14 girls’ doubles consolation).
