Local player Anika Alexander picked up her first victory at the 2010 Yonex Junior & U23 national badminton championships in Toronto yesterday.
Competing in the under-13 girls’ singles, Alexander swept Evelyne Wilkie 21-15/21-13 on the consolation side of the draw.
Earlier in the day, Alexander and partner Rachel Livergant fell 21-11/21-16 to Sommer Chou and Danica Lau in the girls’ doubles division.
Alexander had a pair of matches slated today, facing off against Chantel Lui in singles’ action before teaming up with Livergant again versus Rosanna Chan and Valerie Cheung.
Alexander’s third event—mixed doubles with partner Cam Jensen—resumes tomorrow morning against the duo of Vincent Bellehumeur and Alice Boivin.
