With almost of month of action in the books for the 2012 Borderland Soccer League, the cream has started to rise to the top in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Among the women, Boston Pizza improved to 7-0-0 in regular-season play following a 5-3 win over Al’s Racquet Stringing on Monday night.
Laureen Peters netted a hat-trick while Claire Hyatt and Adrienne Smith added singles.
Peters also is the leading scorer so far this season with 15 goals while keeper Amy Wilson-Hands already has earned three shutouts.
Taggs Source for Sports sat in second place in the four team-loop as of press time with a 5-2-0 record (six points back of Boston Pizza), with their latest victory being a 6-3 win over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs on Monday.
Leading the charge for Taggs offensively have been the Roach sisters, with Courtney scoring 10 goals and Sara seven.
Al’s Racquet Stringing was in third at 1-6-1 record while the Voyageurs were last (0-5-1).
Heading into last night’s slate of men’s games (results weren’t available as of press time), Manitou Forest Products led the four-team loop with a 7-1-0 record—good enough for a five-point cushion on second-place International Travel Services (5-2-1).
Pharmasave (2-4-2) sat in third heading into last night while the Voyageurs still were searching for their first win (0-7-1).
One of the key contributors for Manitou’s hot start has been Ahamadou Idrissou, who leads the men in scoring with 17 goals, including a five-goal game in a 6-0 win last month over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs.
Chris Wiedenhoeft is second in scoring with 10 goals for Pharmasave, with Colton Spicer in third with nine goals for ITS.
With no league games scheduled for today and tomorrow due to graduation ceremonies, action is set to resume next Monday evening in the women’s division, with the Voyageurs taking on Boston Pizza and Taggs facing Al’s Racquet Stringing.
Men’s play returns to the pitch next Tuesday, when ITS squares off with Manitou Forest Products while the Voyageurs battle Pharmasave.
Regular-season play will continue until July 25, with the playoffs getting underway Aug. 7.
