Aces qualify for NorWOSSA

It wasn’t seven, but three that was the lucky number for the Muskie badminton team yesterday—top three, that is.
Two singles players and two doubles teams representing the black-and-gold managed to grab one of the coveted first three placings in their respective divisions at the NorWOSSA qualifier in Atikokan.
Those results were good enough to send that contingent of Fort birdie smashers on to the NorWOSSA finals, which will be in Sioux Lookout a week from today (April 9).
Aaron Bujold shone in his official high school competitive debut, going 4-0 to tie Grant Legaree of Atikokan for first place in the senior boys singles category, despite Bujold only being in Grade 9.
He will be joined next week by teammate Jeremy Shypit, who was third in the division with a 4-2 record.
The tandem of Cam Jolicoeur and Adam Taylor also earned a chance to advance by finishing second in the senior boys doubles category with a 2-1 record behind the Atikokan team of Evan Krassey and Kade Arnone in first at 3-0.
Also finishing second and nabbing a finals berth was the junior girls doubles team of Mykenzie Borger and Katelynn Jack with a 3-1 mark to trail only the Atikokan team of Hailey Manford and Alexis Paquette at 4-0.
Two senior doubles teams just missed making the cut, finishing fourth in their respective division.
The senior girls pairing of Nicole Lepine and Nicole Gage went 0-3, as did the senior boys duo of Bryce Gilbert and Thunder White.
In junior girls singles, Sara Jackson of the Fort was fifth at 1-4, while Caity Visser was sixth at 0-5.
The team of Hunter Brown and Shayton Ottertail-Crow wound up fifth in junior boys doubles with a mark of 2-4.
Junior boys singles play saw Leland Hoagland of the Muskies land in sixth at 1-5, while Jonah McCormick of the Fort was seventh at 0-6.
