Alanna Gerula
The first meeting of the “A Sporting Chance” 4-H club was held at the Williams’ residence.
After the meeting was called to order, Kim Desserre put us into groups of three. Then we had to think of games that have balls in them.
After that, we compared what each team had thought of.
We then said the 4-H pledge before we went around saying our name and age.
Kim then asked us: “What is your favourite ball game?” and everyone answered the question.
Then we did nominations for president, vice-president, secretary, attendance, and news reporter.
Madison Williams was named president, with Andrea Schram as vice-president.
Secretary #1 is Kurt Desserre, Secretary #2 is Morgan Desserre, Secretary #3 is Ben Olsen, Secretary #4 is Mackenzie Jolicouer, Attendance is Aynsley Williams, and the news reported is Alanna Gerula.
After that, we talked about choosing the right sport for you, as well as the benefits of physical activity and what you can do (i.e., take a bike ride, go for a walk, dance to music, and play games like catch, kick the can, and even hopscotch).
Then we went outside to play games such as soccer and 4-H (kind of like tag with a ball).
Second meeting
The second meeting of “A Sporting Chance” was held at Wanda’s house.
After Kim called the meeting to order, she gave us a fish and a piece of newspaper.
We made the newspaper into a fan, then we put our fish on the floor and used our fan to make it move, which we did in heats.
After we all said the 4-H pledge, Madison read aloud the roll call, “Have you ever gone ice-fishing before? If so, what did you catch?”
We all answered, then the minutes were read. Aynsley adopted the minutes as read, Alanna seconded the minutes as read, and then they were carried.
Wanda then read aloud the rules about ice-fishing and we got dressed to go outside. We walked down to the river, where Ted helped us put our line in the water.
Then we waited for the fish, playing some games while we did so. Then when we came back, we started to catch some fish.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
Third meeting
The third meeting of “A Sporting Chance,” held at the Stratton seniors’ centre, was called to order by Madison.
After Heidi Ivall was welcomed to our meeting, we all stood and said the 4-H pledge. Madison then asked the roll call, “Name a game that traditionally is played outdoors.”
After the minutes were read, adopted, seconded, and carried, we talked about meeting times and places.
Heidi then talked about being active, telling us all kids need to be active for 60 minutes and adults for 30 minutes.
Kids can walk to close friends, walk from school, go for runs, go puddle hopping on a rainy day, play tag, rollerblade or skateboard, or be active during recess.
We then played some games, including tag and mouse trap, then Heidi got some weights out and we did some exercise with them.
After we had a healthy snack and cake, we went outside and had a big snowball fight, which was lots and lots of fun!
Our meeting was adjourned around 4 p.m.
