A Message from the mayor celebrating the 2025-26 Fort Frances Lakers

By Andrew Hallikas

On behalf of the Town of Fort Frances, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and sincere gratitude to the Fort Frances Lakers for what has been an extraordinary season.

Finishing first in league play is no small accomplishment, and it stands as a testament to the dedication, discipline, and teamwork demonstrated by every player and member of the organization.

I would also like to recognize Head Coach Luke Judson, whose leadership and commitment were rightfully acknowledged with his selection by the league as Coach of the Year. This honour reflects not only his skill behind the bench, but also the excellence he has helped foster within the team and the organization.

While the outcome of the championship series was not what we had hoped, losing in overtime in Game 7, we could not be prouder of how the Lakers represented our community.

In every sense that matters, this team is made up of champions.

Beyond the excitement that they brought to the ice, the Lakers have proven themselves to be first-class citizens of Fort Frances. Throughout the year, they have generously given their time to support local events, connect with residents, and contribute to the spirit of our town. Their commitment to community service, combined with their sportsmanship and professionalism, sets a powerful example for us all.

The transformation of this team over the past few years speaks volumes about the strength of the coaching staff and the organization as a whole. Together, along with passionate volunteers, they built not only a competitive hockey team but a source of pride for our entire community. This past season brought us some of the finest Junior A hockey ever seen in Fort Frances, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

To the players, coaches, and everyone involved with the Lakers organization: thank you. Thank you for the countless hours of thrilling hockey, for your dedication, and for the many ways you give back to our community. Your efforts both on and off the ice have made Fort Frances a better place.

You are all champions in my eyes, and in the eyes of the community.
