Angie Redford and Anna Schwartz earned gold medals in the senior division during the Sunset Country regional science fair Saturday at Fort Frances High School.
Redford and Schwartz, both representing the Rainy River District School Board, will be heading to the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Regina in May.
Their experiment, entitled “A ‘Major’ Experiment with ‘Minor’ Results,” demonstrated how music can lower blood glucose levels.
They tested both live music and recorded music, and found live music worked better.
Kolten Gagne, meanwhile, earned the silver medal with his project, “How Loud is Too Loud?”
Sabrina Blais earned the bronze medal with “What Do You See?”
Both of those students hailed from the Keewatin Patricia District School Board.
In the junior division, Angelina Nylund (KPDSB) earned first place with her project on “UV Protection.”
J.W. Walker students Chloe Dolyny and Monika Ruppenstein took second place with their experiment, “Pearly Whites or Dark as Night?” while Sullivan Wright (KPDSB) placed third with “The Insulation Challenge.”
The regional science fair, which was hosted by the Rainy River District School Board, saw a total of 20 senior and 15 junior competitors.
