Youth robbed of beer, assaulted

Fort Frances OPP responded to a report of a robbery in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue on Saturday around 5:30 p.m.
A 19-year-old male and friends had purchased a case of beer at The Beer Store and were walking home when three males appraoched them, demanded the case of beer, and proceeded to assault the victim.
A 40-year-old Fort Frances man later was arrested and charged with robbery.
Meanwhile, two 17-year-old males, also of Fort Frances, were arrested and charged with robbery and failing to comply with a sentence.
All three will appear in court July 26.
In other news, Fort Frances OPP were conducting traffic enforcement in the 1300 block of King’s Highway around 10:30 p.m. yesterday when an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed was stopped.
The 25-year-old driver of Fort Frances subsequently was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg.
He is slated to appear in court June 21.
Meanwhile, the Fort Frances OPP’s marine unit checked 36 vessels over the weekend, resulting in two charges laid and seven warnings issued under the Small Vessels Act.
Also over the weekend, Fort Frances OPP investigated three acts of mischief to vehicles. Suspects smashed the windows in three vehicles in the 700 and 800 block of Scott Street.
Also reported was the theft of a car stereo from the 500 block of Scott Street. Entry was gained through a faulty hatchback.
