Workshop to focus on how to recruit, retain employees

Employers who have had trouble finding—and keeping—employees at their businesses need not fret: help is on the way.
The Rainy River Future Development Corp. and NCDS are hosting a workshop featuring renowned customer service expert Roy Prevost on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Copper River Inn here.
“In speaking to employers, they were interested in more information on recruiting, retaining, and motivating their employees,” said RRFDC consultant Tannis Drysdale.
“So we went to NCDS because helping employers finds employees fits into their mandate,” she noted.
We—Nicke Paddock and myself—looked at different speakers and came up with Roy.
“Roy has been here before and has worked elsewhere in Northwestern Ontario recently, doing work with this particular area,” added Drysdale.
“He’s putting on this workshop to be specifically geared to our needs here in Rainy River District given our current situation,” she said, referring to the current labour market shortage.
Prevost also has appeared on CBS News, Fox, NBC, and ABC.
As well, NCDS will make a presentation on the services it provides to employers, with the emphasis on helping employers make “a good match” with the right employees.
The RRFDC and NCDS also will provide takeaway information on ways to advertise in Fort Frances and elsewhere to get the right employees for your business.
Drysdale said anyone involved in human resources and responsible for hiring—whether they’re at a business or government service—is welcome to attend.
Appetizers will be served at 5:30 p.m., with the workshop starting at 6 p.m.
If you plan to attend, RSVP by Wednesday, Jan. 18 by e-mailing ecdev@fort-frances.com or calling 274-9621.
The workshop will be followed up by a hiring fair closer to springtime (date to be determined).
The fair, being organized by NCDS and RRFDC in co-operation with the Town of Fort Frances, is meant to help employers find employees in time for summer.
