Women in mining target of luncheon

It’s not too late to sign up for a women in mining luncheon here tomorrow.
Presented by New Gold, the Rainy River Future Development Corp., PARO, and NCDS, it will take place from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Copper River Inn.
Two speakers—New Gold general manager Grant Goddard and Barbara Courte Elinesky, president of Northstar Drilling and representative for the PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise—are on the agenda.
“They’re going to be speaking about some of the different opportunities for women in mining,” said RRFDC intern Jamie Petrin.
She added these opportunities refer not just to working for New Gold but having a business that sells to the mine.
Petrin said seven stations also will be set up around the room, where attendees can meet with women involved in the mining industry.
Attendees will be given a passport and if they hit every station, they can enter a draw for a prize sponsored by New Gold.
“I would encourage anybody who has even entertained the idea of pursuing any type of the career in the mining industry to attend,” said Petrin.
Those interested can register by calling the RRFDC at 274-3276 before 10 a.m. tomorrow.
There is a $25 cost, which includes lunch.
In related news, the RRFDC continues to regularly host business training seminars.
A session on building stronger customer relationships is slated for this Thursday (May 7).
The Oasis skills-building seminar, which is being provided through Contact North, will run from 1-4 p.m. at the RRFDC office (located above the Northern Lights Credit Union here).
To register, contact Angela Halvorsen at 274-3276 or angela@rrfdc.on.ca or Raeann Watson at 1-855-441-3988 or fortfrances@contactnorth.ca
Refreshments will be served, with a free Oasis membership being offered as the door prize.
