The Little Amik Winter Carnival is still a month away but organizers already are working to finalize details of events planned for the four-day celebration slated to kick off here Feb. 4.
Dawn Booth, co-ordinator for the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, said most of the particulars will be ironed out tonight when the winter carnival committee meets.
Booth also noted there has been an influx of people interested in sitting on the winter carnival committee–something the Chamber was hoping would result from a recent public appeal for volunteers.
“Oh, it’s been great!,” she enthused. “We probably have 20 on the committee this year.”
Booth said the committee is looking at scratching a few carnival events from the list this year, including the “Stone Cold Curling.”
“Most of the events are pretty much the same as last year but some have been deleted,” she noted, citing the workload and not enough help as the main reasons behind the cancellation of the curling event.
But one popular event back for the fourth time will be “Quest for the Best.” Slated Feb. 5 upstairs at the arena, the talent show will feature 20 singers vying for cash prizes.
The deadline to enter “Quest” is Friday. The entry fee is $20, with registration forms available at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, CFOB, Handy Pro Hardware, Sight and Sound, Fort Frances High School, the Fairway Store in Emo, Rainy River High School, the International Falls Chamber of Commerce office, and On Cue in the International Mall.
Contestants must be at least 14 years of age to enter.
