Town council will get more information about the Shaw Go WiFi initiative at its regular meeting tonight.
Ian Phillips, government relations manager for Shaw, sent a letter to the town back in January, noting Shaw would like to enter into a municipal WiFi agreement so Shaw can offer WiFi in municipal facilities at no cost to the town or the facility user.
The offer was discussed by the Administration and Finance executive committee earlier this month, with Community Services manager Jason Kabel and IT specialist Frank Wepruk speaking in favour of it.
The committee, in turn, recommended Phillips personally speak to council about Shaw Go WiFi, which he will do tonight.
Also tonight, council will hear the 2015 police activities report from Insp. Steve Shouldice, detachment commander of the Rainy River District OPP.
The committee of the whole first will hold a budget meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. (no in-camera session is scheduled).
Other items on tonight’s agenda include:
•a report on 2015 capital financing
•a recommendation for a deeming bylaw for Lots 59-61, Lots 59, 60 and 61 of SM119 (Ahrens property);
•a recommendation for a septic system for property on Eighth Street;
•a recommendation re: a letter from J. DeGagne of DeGagne Construction regarding commercial lots on Fifth Street;
•a request from Tbaytel re: the town’s geospatial data;
•a revised corporate wide master mobility service agreement with Tbaytel;
•a strategic plan update by Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig; and
•a request from the Downtown Scott Street BIA to have a page on the Town of Fort Frances website.
